Server initialization fails with message "Could not create database after 3 attempts."
Applies to RapidOne Server and RapidOne FreeServer

Summary
Upon running RapidOne Server for the first time following a new installation whilst initializing the database the error message "Could not create database after 3 attempts.".

Background
In all known cases this error occurred only when a new database was installed overwriting an existing one, for example when installing a new version of RapidOne Server and chosing not to re-use the existing database.

Fix
  None planned.

Work-around

  1. In Windows go to administrative tools, select Services
  2. Find the Service named MSSQL$ACTIONDB
  3. Stop the Service
  4. With explorer go to the program folder for Microsoft SQL Server (typically C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server)
  5. Select folder MSSQL$ACTIONDB\Data
  6. Manually delete files named RS_1_1000_**.mdf and RS_1_1000_**_log.LDF where ** represents your license number (always 77 in case of Freeware)
  7. Restart the Service (the one you stopped in step 3)

If all fails uninstall Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (ACTIONDB) in add/remove programs. Note that this will cause complete loss of data of all RapidOne Server installations on that computer.
