Server initialization fails with message "Could not create database after 3 attempts." |
| Applies to RapidOne Server and RapidOne FreeServer |
| |
|
| Summary |
|
| |
Upon running RapidOne Server for the first time following a new installation whilst initializing the database the error message "Could not create database after 3 attempts.". |
| |
|
| Background |
|
| |
In all known cases this error occurred only when a new database was installed overwriting an existing one, for example when installing a new version of RapidOne Server and chosing not to re-use the existing database. |

| Fix |
|
| |
None planned. |
| |
|
| Work-around |
|
| |
- In Windows go to administrative tools, select Services
- Find the Service named MSSQL$ACTIONDB
- Stop the Service
- With explorer go to the program folder for Microsoft SQL Server (typically C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server)
- Select folder MSSQL$ACTIONDB\Data
- Manually delete files named RS_1_1000_**.mdf and RS_1_1000_**_log.LDF where ** represents your license number (always 77 in case of Freeware)
- Restart the Service (the one you stopped in step 3)
If all fails uninstall Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (ACTIONDB) in add/remove programs. Note that this will cause complete loss of data of all RapidOne Server installations on that computer. |
